As I remember it, Janet and I flew from Hong Kong to San Francisco, then via Denver to Oklahoma City - to be met by Janet's sister Doris and her lovely daughter Kasey. Howard was away in Chicago on business so we never met up this time.

A comment.... We flew United and have to say the stewardesses were generally not pleasant on the eye... I like United's policy of not restricting the job to beautiful young lovelies - but it was quite a shock after flying Cathay, Singapore and Malaysian airlines.

I can remember 3 dinners out in Oklahoma City - but not their order.... Chinese, big steaks down near the railroad yards and one with Kasey's beau in a modern mall type place - out near a lake/reservoir??. All very pleasant - BUT we had work to do - and places to see!!

The idea was... to visit San Antonio, and it would make a nice trip if we took Beth (Doris' ex-mother-in-law) along, so that we had  at least one Texan who could translate for us........ Off we went in Doris' Beamer down to Dallas. Beth stays in a retirement village place and we stayed one night with her there. Next morning we were off in Beth's car (don't know why) - except that Beth reckoned it was a "purty car" so I guess we had to use "the purty one". Off to see the sights of Dallas.....

Well - first had to be Dealey Plaza, grassy knoll, Book Depository etc... the Kennedy assassination...

Doris and Janet - that's the book depository behind - we did the tour in there - very well done - and I'd reckon it wasn't more than 100 feet from the sniper's window down to the road/car (the trees have grown much higher over the years) - so (knowing nothing about guns) - is that an easy distance for a sniper to shoot from.....??

All around the grassy-knoll..

And then we were off again - to San Antonio... what a great place - and most unexpected!! Have you forgotten......???

"Remember the Alamo" - nice to see, well presented - the memory I came away with was the number/proportion of non-Americans that were killed in there - lots and lots of Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English (I think) - and lots of others...

And then we were at leisure in San Antonio..... the best part of it I think was....

The Riverwalk!! Apparently they diverted the flow of the river backwards so that it ran in the required direction in the city - then they built lots of restaurants and bars - making an excellent (by the river) - experience. We took a boat ride and generally liked it very much!!

Doris me and Beth - don't know where the purty car has gotten to!!

On the drive down and back - I was basically left to my own devices - shopping in the Malls was the order of the day!! They were massive and brilliant - for Janet.

One place we stopped at for dinner - informed us "this is a dry county" when we asked for wine and drinks.... that was initially off-putting - but of course there was a devious alternative....... If we'd like to purchase (for 5 or 10 dollars) a waiver-ticket - then we could order whatever we liked.... result!!

Dropped Beth off at her place in Dallas, thanks for the use of the car and pleased to have met you.. back into Doris' place just in time for a play with the dogs - and more importantly....

Voddie-time!! Hooray Oklahoma isn't dry!!

Bye-bye dogs, Doris, Kasey, Beth - thanks for a nice stay - back through Denver and San Francisco - tried to contact Sue Oldrieve - Sue and Dave but failed... then back to Hong Kong.
