I have to be honest here - I don't know if these piccies were
taken in October 1972, or where exactly they are, or whether we took a few trips
- or just one extended trip. Also, in writing this verbage I've managed to
identify some places (I think) - and they are located in the Drakensberg
mountains - not really "Northern Transvaal".
What is correct is the sequence of the shots - because I've
checked the slide numbers on the film - so here we go...
Obviously a
"wind-on shot" - I mean - what semi-professional ace-photographer would leave
his finger over the lense..?? Our Fred framing an arty "foreground/background"
view over "somewhere" - told you I wasn't sure where we were!! For some reason I
think this is looking (sort of towards) the Three Rondavels - I know they're not
in the piccie - but I just feel that's where we were - Looks like the Lowveldt
beyond the hills...??
For some reason I
think this is "God's Window" more of this later.... fabulous views!!
Now this is Mac Mac
Falls again - I really loved that place...
(see here for previous visit)
Almuth (with my old
Kowa camera) sitting on the edge of the gorge at Mac Mac Falls.
There were hundreds
of these.... things... ?Locusts/Grasshoppers?, couple of inches long - but being
old Africa Hands - we just ignored them - except for trying not to step on them
- splatt - eeeerrrrhhhh!!!
Fred, Jean & Almuth
- I think we were working our way along the escarpment - that's the Lowveldt in
the distance 1,000 metres below, and to the left of this piccie is.....
Lisbon Falls... as
I remember it, I was here taking piccies - and Almuth was able to walk around to
my left and get over onto the falls - the next piccie is her, over there - a
little to the right of the main fall.
See what I mean??
See below as well - sometimes scary how "unfenced/wild" some of the "sights"
were - but brilliantly exciting - as if you were a real explorer - no
signs/fences etc...

Looking down Lisbon
Falls
and again..
Don't really know
where this is, but liked the Flame/Flambouyant trees in bloom and the sleepiness
of the place - Sabie? Graskop?? Pilgrim's Rest?
Now this looks like
the river running towards Bourke's Pot Holes
And there is Fred
(top right - brown trousers) looking down into where the pot-holes are... in
which case... the pot-hole piccies I've posted in the Swaziland trip are out of
place
(see here)
A waterfall -
looking down.....
Back to God's
Window - the escarpment
God's Window - the
Lowveldt and then back to Blyde River Canyon....
All 3 are there (Fred, Jean, Almuth) - I think that's
Jean in white and black.
and then we were
amongst Citrus farms
Almuth and some
tree/shrub/flower.....
See the Citrus
farms in the distance..? Finally (I think) we ended up at Lone Creek Falls - but
it looks a bit cold/wet/rainy... Almuth with headscarf...
