Schools in my day used to teach subjects like Geography, History, Literature, French, Latin etc.. What they should have taught (they may do now - I don't know) was things like "Society - living in it", "Logic", "Communication", etc.. Instead of things that (in the main) would not be used by you at a later age, they should have taught "general principles" which provide a foundation for individual personalities to grow on. The old subjects (like Geography, French etc..) could be glossed over ... introduced merely, say one such subject every 2 weeks - and then discarded, the pupils can then take more of an interest if they so desire - in their own time. |
